things that I think are really great and interesting and that you should maybe check out. articles, videos, software, books, anything.

software

A brilliant open-source operating system. Lightweight, performant, transparent, and really well-made overall. I love it for desktop use, server use, and especially embedded systems. Using Linux feels like holding a nicely crafted glass cube, whereas Windows feels like some brown plastic. At least Mac is Unix-based.

My editor. Peak editor. Best editor (for me). Also I really like the plugins and just the whole system in general. Very nice!

A great free note-taking tool. I love the customizability, the graph view, and how well it supports a Zettelkasten-style approach to managing knowledge. A little bummed it’s not fully open source, but whatever. I actually built a similar alternative as a Neovim plugin that I also use heavily.

I just couldn’t live without them. They are so good, so fast, and I need them. They are perfect in every way (mostly). You don’t even need to touch the mouse. All editing happens on your nice comfy little keyboard.

articles

Just proves and benchmarks how slow clean code really is and how pointless and bad it can be sometimes. Just an absolutely great article and video and it’s brilliant. I absolutely love it. Casey Muratori is a great guy and super talented engineer.

books

Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software Charles Petzold

This book helped me visualize how computers work from the bottom up. I couldn’t stop reading. I finished the whole book in almost three days. It’s so interesting, super well written, and just absolutely a great read. This changed my perspective on CS forever.
